13 highlights of 2013 – My Year in Travels

I can categorically state that 2013 has been the most exciting and varied travel year I’ve ever had. With Pumpkin in tow, we’ve frozen in Iceland and sweltered in Sri Lanka, we’ve filled our bellies (a bit too much) with everything from Austrian Schnitzel to Vietnamese Pho; we’ve hiked and snorkeled, felt more exhausted than ever and more relaxed than ever (sometimes on the same trip!) Firsts for me have included: a perfect sunset, a perfect rainbow, an orangutan, the largest flower in the world, a glacier, a geyser, a Communist country, a wedding anniversary and a blog!

Here are my 13 highlights from 2013. If there are any that tickle your fancy and you want to read more, just click on the photo for my previous posts! Those of you who have seen the blog before may notice that some pictures look familiar and I’ve thrown in a few teasers on some upcoming posts…

What have been your most memorable travel experiences of the year?

Wishing you all a Happy New Year!

I would LOVE to visit and write about Creuse!! Could 2014 be the year??

Thank you so much! It was a great year and it’s been so much fun to be able to write about it! I love reading about your travels too and one of the best things about travel blogging for me is the way we all seem to be spreading travel inspiration between one another! Iceland is really beautiful landscape – very different to anywhere else I’d seen and if you do get a chance, it’s really worthwhile – hard decision choosing winter or summer though as pros and cons with both!

  3. What an exciting year of travel you have just had. I have an ambitious first half of the year planned with trips and hope I can do something fun and relaxing in Autumn. I’m thinking Amsterdam or a location in Greece.

Thank you! It was certainly fun – I hope you have a great time in Greece and Amsterdam – I went to one of the Greek islands many years ago and loved the climate, food and friendly people where are you planning for the ambitious first half of the year? Look forward to reading your updates!

      1. Well no plans for either of those, just a thought at this stage. This is my travel plan for the year: http://girlroamingaroundtheworld.wordpress.com/2014/01/04/here-there-and-everywhere-in-2014/

Thank you! 🙂 It was wonderful to have a chance to see so many diverse places (I cheated by squeezing in one from London but there’s no saying you can’t travel in your own home town!)

  5. What an amazing year you had, how’s 2014 panning out?

Thank you so much Phoebe. 2014 going well so far – I’ve visited South America for the first time & a short trip to Slovenia 🙂

  6. Oh my goodness…what an amazing year for you!!! How incredible, I would be happy to visit one of those places! 🙂

Thanks Lauren 🙂 it was a wonderful year – the Europe places are a bit easier to arrange from here in London as it’s all quite nearby and short distances to fly, which is always a bonus!

  7. Wow, you’ve definitely fitted a lot of traveling in a year! Incredible places, love the photo of the Blue Lagoon in Iceland. Somewhere I would definitely love to visit. Thanks for linking up to the #SundayTraveler!

Thanks so much 🙂 A few of those places we paired up in one trip as they were quite nearby (like Borneo and Brunei for example) so strategies like that help! Blue Lagoon is so relaxing – hope you get a chance to go, I went in the daytime but I hear it’s also supposed to be quite magical after the sun sets in the evening.

  8. Wow, you managed to fit in a lot of travel in a year! I’m so jealous. Hopefully 2014 is just as busy for you 🙂

Thank you Adelina – it was a pretty hectic year but a lot of fun so I’m not complaining! From the UK, it’s so quick to many European countries, which makes them ideal for long weekends etc so that also makes it easier to see a few more places! Hope you’re having a wonderful 2014 so far too 🙂

  9. wow! That’s a lot of traveling and amazing experiences in one year!! I think everything you’ve listed here is something that I would love to do someday! I hope your 2014 thus far is shaping up to be just as awesome… and hopefully even more so!

Thank you for commenting Anna 🙂 We tried to pair up places that were close by eg. The Maldives was never on the cards really but when we booked Sri Lanka, we realised it was so close by so started investigating! 2014 has been fun so far – hope you’re having some lovely travel adventures too!
